Gulfport City Council Approves Lease for New Casino
The City of Gulfport and developers are moving right along with plans for a new casino at the harbor.
Today, the council voted unanimously to approve a long term lease for developers Mississippi Coast Entertainment LP to build the casino situated between the Coast Guard and the port at the small craft harbor.
The $140 million resort casino will include a hotel, parking garage and entertainment theater. Steve Hendrix with Gulfport Redevelopment Commission said, “We think it’s a great step forward for the development of the harbor to have an additional casino here. Island View is a great property and a great community partner, but I think it’s important for Gulfport to have an additional casino for competitive purposes.”
Attorney for the developer Robert Lubin also told the city council of plans to redevelop several areas in the city that need a boost including the Markham building in downtown and Centennial Plaza.
