Gulfport catcher Blake Johnson commits to Tulane

Two months ago, the Gulfport baseball team returned to the state championship series for the first time since 2005. A big reason why was standout catcher Blake Johnson who’s now got plans to keep manning the backstop after high school.
Yesterday, the rising senior took to Twitter to announce his commitment to Tulane University. Always a steady force behind the plate, Johnson took his offensive game to the next level in 2016, hitting .351 with six home runs, 17 doubles, and 30 RBIs as a junior.
That stat line, along with an above average pop time, drew other offers from Penn and Southeastern Louisiana. In the end, he chose to stay close to home and head uptown.
Recent Tulane graduate Grant Brown was also a former Admiral and St. Stanislaus alum Jonathan Artigues is currently on the Green Wave roster.
