Gulfport Care Center celebrates Mardi Gras
While most people have to go to the parade for Mardi Gras fun, this parade came to the residents at Gulfport Care Center.
Cars were decked out in Mardi Gras décor as riders were slinging beads, moon pies, and goodies to patients at the Care Center on Canal Road.
Home health agencies, community businesses, organizations, and schools all participated in today’s parade.
To get the full Mardi Gras experience, a king and queen was also selected.
Family members of the patients also showed up to visit and partake in the Mardi Gras celebration. Gulfport Care Center Administrator Tangie Carrillo said, “Nursing homes tend to have a stigma that it’s just a lot of sick people in a building, but these people have so much life and we want to try to create the best environment for them, make them feel like there is still a lot out there.”
Gulfport Care Center started their Mardi Gras parade tradition three years ago during the pandemic.
