Gulfport battles brush fire near apartment complex
Gulfport Fire Department battled a brush fire this morning that burned about 20 acres.
Chief Billy Kelley said when firefighters arrived on scene in an area between 39th Avenue and 34th Street by Emerald Pines Apartments, about 2 acres were on fire.
The property is owned by Mississippi Department of Transportation.
He said by the time fire crews got the blaze under control in the early afternoon, about 20 acres had been burned.
Gulfport deployed five pumper trucks, a brush truck and a drone to make sure they got the fire out.
Kelley said the Mississippi Forestry Commission was creating a fire break to make sure the fire was out.
There was no property damaged and no injuries reported.
