Gulfport approves contract to widen Landon Rd. from Highway 49
Gulfport is approving an engineering contract to widen Landon Road from Highway 49 past Sam’s Club to alleviate the bottleneck in that area.
Mayor Billy Hewes tells News 25 this plan has been a long time coming. The project is out for bid right now. The city is hoping to get started in May or June.
The construction will start about a quarter mile from Highway 49 to Coleman Road as well as improving the intersection of Old 49 and Landon Road.
The hybrid-two to three lane will be a four lane with a boulevard going past Sam’s. Mayor Hewes said, “All you’ve got to do is travel at once. Trying to go from Sam’s Club or the restaurants out there or any of the hotels, it is a challenge no matter what time of the day. So, we can’t get this project completed soon enough. We’re just going to have to get through it, probably the next year or so to get a better place with being able to move back and forth on Landon Road.”
The project will cost $5 million.
