Gulf Park Estates residents question Board of Supervisors’ decision over RV Park

Gulf Park Estates residents raised concerns at the Jackson County Board of Supervisors meeting, saying that they believe putting an RV park in the neighborhood is against the law.

Three appeals were filed following the Board of Supervisors’ previous decision in October, which considered granting a special exemption to the developers of Islands RV Resort, LLC.

One of those appeals claims that Jackson County would be violating its own zoning ordinance if they granted the special exemption, even for an economic reason.

The developers disagreed, saying that a short-term stay park does not directly violate the zoning ordinance.

After six hours of discussion, the board decided to table the topic.

Eamon Mohiuddin, “The board listened carefully to both sides, but they were really trying to determine is this legal or not legal. Both sides have presented arguments, but it’s the board’s decision to determine now… is this legal according to the law or is this illegal? And we’re saying it’s completely illegal.”

The board will meet again on December 18th.
