Gulf Islands Economic Impact Report: Visitors added $610M to state

Good news from the National Park Service on the economic impact of visitors to the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

According to the park service, there were 5.7 million visitors for the barrier islands in Florida and Mississippi.

Those visitors spent $283 million which resulted in an economic impact on Mississippi of $610 million last year.

Florida’s economic impact was $1.4 billion. That impact also supported 3,660 jobs in local communities.

Nationally, 312 million park visitors spent $23.9 billion directly with an economic impact to the U.S. economy of $50.3 billion.
