Gulf Coast Winter Classics enters final weekend

The Gulf Coast Winter Classic is wrapping up the event with its final weekend.

It’s the last two days to see the Winter Classics at the Harrison County Fairground and there is still a lot more action to go before it is wrapped up.

Riders from all different ages and skill levels will compete in a variety of hunter and jumper competitions.

Participants from all over the country have made their way down to the Coast to participate in the Classics and several out-of-staters are expected to compete this weekend as well.

The event has five different rings of competition, but the largest is the Featured Class Grand Prix on Sunday at 2 p.m. with competitors competing for a $25,000 prize pool. Gulf Coast Winter Classics Coordinator Janet McCarroll said, “It’s pretty exciting to watch and we usually get a pretty good public crowd of spectators, so if you want to come, I suggest get here a little early and come out to the Harrison County Fairgrounds and Equestrian Center and just come on in. It’s free to the public and there will people that will direct you to parking and you will have a big time.”

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
