Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System to receive infrastructure improvements

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The Department of Veterans Affairs is realigning funds for the fiscal year as part of the Veterans Health Administration’s non-recurring maintenance program.

The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is receiving an additional $800 million for infrastructure improvements.

The extra funding means more resources to repair and update VA facilities and technology.

Some of the improvements including creating an emergency operations center on the Biloxi campus to enhance emergency readiness, sidewalk and road repairs on the Biloxi campus, and other upgrades on campuses across the health system.

VA Secretary Doug Collins said, “This is another step forward in our efforts to make VA work better for the Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors we are charged with serving. Improved facilities, equipment and infrastructure help improve care for Veterans, and these additional funds will enable VA to achieve that goal.”

The funds come from savings gleaned from various VHA reform efforts.
