Gulf Coast Symphony prepares to open its 63rd season in October
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony is opening its 63rd season with a concert at the MGCCC Impac Center in October.
The season features several dates already scheduled, including opening night, called Broadway at the Beach. The pops concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Holiday Peppermint Pops concert is on December 1 and the Classical Showcase on January 25.
A special concert, Carmina Burana, will feature the USM Choral Union on March 15.
The season ends with Beethoven Meets Jazz on April 12.
Dr. Peter Rubardt, the musical director and conductor for the symphony, talked to WXXV about the opening concert.
“It’s a pops concert of the greatest hits from Broadway, some oldies, like Rodgers and Hammerstein, Les Mis, Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc. It just goes on and on and on,” he said.
“And so that will be a lot of fun for star, young star soloist, emerging soloist that will be coming in to do that concert with us. It should be a great way to kick off the season.”
