Gulf Coast Skateparks Association hosts a community yard sale

Biloxi, Miss. (WXXV)- The Gulf Coast Skateparks Association hosted a community yard sale on Saturday.

Association members and volunteers coming out early to raise money for a permanent skatepark at the Biloxi underpass.

The Gulf Coast Skateparks Association’s president Tyler Prowant saying the idea comes from his sister-in-law with hopes of future yard sales.

Items range from clothing, electronics, furniture to even collectibles.

Any item not sold was donated to a nonprofit on the coast.

“This could be a really awesome fundraiser. We had a couple thousand items she donated and the community donated,” said Prowant. “We hauled that out here with volunteers to build a replacement for our DIY skatepark with a permanent concrete skatepark. Of course everyone wants it done as soon as possible. I think the most aggressive we can be is 2 years.”

“I was in class and they said they needed volunteers to raise money for a skatepark. I absolutely loving skateboarding – I don’t do tricks or anything anymore,” said Anthony Galloway, a volunteer. “I still cruise around with my sister and daughter. So skateboarding was a big part for me to keep me out of a lot of the trouble I could have gotten into.”

Galloway shares that anyone wanting to volunteer should do so, saying the main reason kids get in trouble for skating is because there is no area to skate.

One person who came out to the yard sale saying he came out to support the cause.

“This is for a good cause, it’s good for the youth. We’re wanting to build a skatepark, any little bit helps. They have a lot of good stuff: electronics, cookware, clothing, you name it,” said Matthew Fobar.
