Gulf Coast Rescue Mission is Recovering
After a devastating fire, the mission continues for the Gulf Coast Rescue Mission in Biloxi.
The 50-year-old shelter went up in flames in early September. The fire destroyed the main building where various residents and the director lived.
Since the fire, Executive Director Thomas Mims tells News 25 the rescue mission has removed the building’s remains and cleaned off the slab where it once stood. He says the rescue mission has come a long way since the fire and they couldn’t have done so without the help from the community. “The community has been phenomenal. We’ve seen our friends come and we’ve made new friends. We’ve raised probably about $25,000 in two weeks. Of course, we are going to need a lot more to build this building. We’ve reopened the store. We have a yard sale-type store now and all of our customers are back and we’re doing great.”
The rescue mission is still taking clothing, furniture and donations. If you’d like them to pick up your donations, call 228-388-8884.
