Gulf Coast Receives New Medical Examiner

South Mississippi is set to receive a new state examiner who will serve all six counties along the Gulf Coast.
The Coast has been without a forensic pathologist since the passing of Dr. Paul McGarry in January 2015. Since then, investigators have been transferring bodies to and from Jackson, causing delays in major cases and reports. Now, Dr. Ken Clark of Syracuse, New York will serve on the Coast.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove tells News 25 hiring Clark will not only save the Coast money, it will allow coroners to attend autopsies as well. “Which we haven’t been able to since 2015. It’s an added plus for us because when we’re there we can talk to the pathologist and get his feeling about the case and give him input directly, face-to-face, rather than by telephone.”
Clark will work out of the morgue located on Highway 67. He’s expected to start within the next couple of months.
