Gulf Coast Public Health Summit
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at Jefferson Davis Campus hosted its first ever Gulf Coast Public Health Summit.
The summit raises awareness for human trafficking, opioid addiction, and much more. The goal is to encourage and stress the importance of mental and physical health with keynote speakers addressing the issues first hand.
Educators, physicians, and social workers come to South Mississippi for this event to speak on health care, environmental, social, and justice issues. Keynote speaker Sunny Slaughter said, “The whole goal of everyone being here is to really talk about what we can do to support and assist our marginalized populations in dealing with crime and also the importance of public health policy as it relates to social determinative health.”
The summit will carry through tomorrow afternoon on campus.
