Gulf Coast Orchid Society’s Annual Show
This weekend, Coast residents have the chance to admire a unique array of flora at the Gautier Convention Center during the Gulf Coast Orchid Society’s 37th annual show.
It’s estimated that somewhere between 25,000 to 30,000 species of orchids exist which makes them a very popular plant for collecting and growing. A variety of the beautiful blooms will be on display and many are available for purchase.
If you’re interested in getting your own orchid or just want to learn more about the plants, this show is the place to be. Jo Ann Vaz with the Gulf Coast Orchid Society said, “Sunday at 2 p.m. we’re going to have a beginner’s class on how to grow orchids. We’ll answer your questions and a lot of people have orchids. You’d be surprised. Once they’re cut they stay fresh for a long time and the plant is rejuvenated and blooms again so it’s really a neat plant to have.”
There is no admission charge and the show will be open to the public tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
