Gulf Coast Monarchy Season Opener preview
Women’s professional tackle football is officially returning to the Gulf Coast this weekend after two years of preparation and anticipation.
After their inaugural season was canceled last year due to COVID, the Gulf Coast Monarchy is finally strapping on their pads and lacing up their cleats for their first game Saturday, May 1st at 6 p.m. against Houston Energy.
Local Coast women of all ages and background will make history as they take the field for the first time as part of the GC Monarchy.
Not sure what to expect? Wide Receiver Wanda Farmer Bey helps explain what women’s tackle football looks like. “We’re not your Bo Jackson. We’re not your Troy Aikman. We’re not those people, but we’re in our own self and we’re comfortable in our own skin. And being out here on this football field, it’s just– just come out and watch. Just come and see us. Come out and watch and you will see.”
If that isn’t enough of a reason to check out the Monarchy in action, the team is dedicating their inaugural season to Pass Christian teen and teammate Abby Bosarge, who is currently battling cancer.
