Gulf Coast Kwanzaa Coalition Celebrates 4th Night
Monday night was the second to last night of Kwanzaa, and the Gulf Coast Kwanzaa Coalition is focusing on its youth.
The celebration, which is Swahili for "first fruits," celebrates African American culture. The seven day celebration is a time for remembering, reassessing, recommitting, and rejoicing. At a time of racial turmoil in our nation, Kwanzaa Coalition leaders feel events like these are important, especially for the youth of the African American community.
Terri Tyler, event coordinator, says, “Oh it’s very important and we want our young people to just be together and see good, see the good in everybody and every situation and coming to things like this, well it does help our youth.”
Tuesday, the Kwanzaa Coalition will celebrate the elderly in the community.
