Gulf Coast Industries visits the Mississippi Aquarium

Among the busloads of people at the Mississippi Aquarium this morning was Pine Belt Mental Health Care Resources showing its participants new ideas about employment.

Around 30 guests were there by way of the Walmart Community Grant awarded to Gulf Coast Industries and Pine Belt Mental Health Care Resources.

Gulf Coast Industries helps adults with intellectual disabilities find and keep employment through its resource center.

Representatives from both groups were out there to give more details. Pine Belt Mental Health Care IDD Coordinator Evelyn Sullivan said, “Some of our individuals. They work in our center, they do janitorial. They do different things and so this will give them the opportunity for them to be exposed to something different.”

Sam’s Club Sales and Marketing Manager Chasiti Melvin said, “So the organization can choose how they use the grant, but it’s anything they want to use it for, whether it’s adding on to the aquarium or do like they’re doing, using it for experiences for other people.”

Sullivan tells News 25 the resource center has openings for 15 more participants for those interested.
