Gulf Coast Community Ministries is gearing up for ‘Camping for Hope’

Gulf Coast Community Ministries in Gulfport is gearing up for their annual Camping for Hope giveaway.

Each year, churches and businesses come together to equip 150 local homeless individuals with everything needed for the cold, wet winter months such as coats, sleeping bags, under garments, and hygiene kits.

To make sure everyone gets a chance to participate in the event, Coast Transit Authority will provide free bus service to and from the event.

A hot breakfast and a meal will also be provided. Gulf Coast Community Ministries Executive Director Michael Wilson said, “This time of year, you have a number of things coming at our homeless population that many of us don’t think about. Almost none of them have family in the local area, so they are alone. They often feel like they have been forgotten. So, this is an opportunity to let them know in fact that they are not forgotten.”

Camping for Hope will take place Saturday starting at 8 a.m. in the lot next to Shaggy’s Restaurant in Gulfport.

Those who would like to donate can visit Gulf Coast Community Ministries and drop off items or go online to gulfcoastministry.org/camping-for-hope.
