Gulf Coast Community Ministries holds food drive to support families in need

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)-Gulf Coast Community Ministries held a food drive over the weekend, working to make sure people in need have access to food and essential household items.

The drive took place outside Rouses in Gulfport, where community members were asked to make nonperishable donations.

Mississippi Power’s Community Connection also stepped in with a $500 grocery donation to support the effort.

Organizers say the need continues and they’re looking for people willing to donate or volunteer. Gulf Coast Community Ministries Director Wayne Alewine said, “Our goal is to make sure when they come see us at Gulf Coast Community Ministries, we have food and things to give them. That’s why we’re here today, we call on the community, because they’re the backbone of everything we do. The outpouring of love from this community to the homeless is absolutely mind blowing to me. It’s just absolutely amazing.”

Gulf Coast Community Ministries says with the community’s help they can continue putting essential resources in the hands of those who need them most.
