Gulf Coast Coaching Clinic
For more than five decades, coaching legends from all ranks of football have descended upon the area for the Gulf Coast Coaching Clinic. This year marks the 55th annual event and there’s a high profile lineup to go with it.
When the clinic first started in 1964, it was one of the first of its kind and it’s multiplied exponentially in size ever since. Tonight, South Alabama head coach and former Mississippi Gulf Coast head man Steve Campbell was one of the keynote speakers headlining the first quarter of the three-day session.
Coming up tomorrow is Hancock alum and Southern Miss legend Brett Favre, Gulfport native and Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke, and Mississippi State’s Joe Moorhead.
Quite the honor for Lindy Callahan to still be putting this together all these years later. “This is a special year and we tried to get the best lineup we could and I think we have with the people we got to speak. But the years have been wonderful, the coaching clinic and the coaches and all, they look forward to it each year. I’m a little older now, but we try to do the best to provide for them and whatever they need.”
Callahan led Gulfport to three consecutive state championships from 1963 to 1965. He says the first one helped inspire him to start the clinic.
