Gulf Coast Carnival Association’s Annual Mardi Gras Rendezvous
It’s never too early to break out your Mardi Gras purple, green, and gold. Despite the official start of Mardi Gras not being for another five months, the Gulf Coast Carnival Association decided to celebrate its favorite holiday a little early.
Sunday afternoon, the GCCA held its annual Mardi Gras Rendezvous at Ship Island. Participants were encouraged to fly their flags and practice all boater while social distancing guidelines.
While plans for the 113th Mardi Gras on the Coast are still unknown due to health and safety concerns around COVID-19, GCCA Board Member Andi Oustalet emphasizes the importance of keeping each other’s spirits up. “So it’s kind of an event to just get everybody together. There’s been so much that’s gone wrong this year, that this is something that everybody can go out and they can do together and they can stay socially distanced apart on boats. They can have their friends out there and it’s just everybody on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that has a boat, a member of Gulf Coast Carnival Association, they fly their flags. It’s flag swag day, put your flags out, and away you go out to the islands and enjoy this beautiful, beautiful weather and what we have here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Mardi Gras 2021 is scheduled to fall on Tuesday, February 16th.
