Gulf Coast Boxing Academy in Gulfport to represent the magnolia state in the 2024 Silver Glove Competition

I’m here at the Gulf Coast Boxing Academy where family bonds are made and punches will knock you out of this world. Head Coach Jonathan Hopkins says this team has truly saved him and he’s honored to coach them each and everyday.

Coach Jonathan Hopkins: “These babies saved my life,” said Coach Hopkins. “Boxing puts confidence in them. They walk around differently, and you wouldn’t believe if but they tend to not bother anybody because they’re so confident in themselves. They do better in school. They’re more respectful to their parents, and it does a lot for them.”

Because of the academy’s outstanding year with five fighters at the top of their weight class, Gulf Coast Boxing is the only academy representing the state of Mississippi at the 2024 USA Boxing Region 6 Silver Glove Competition.

“It was hard, I’m not going to lie,” said boxer Jadan Broomfield. “There weren’t any scrubs in the bracket, so we had to work to get to that point.”

“It means a lot. We get to represent the whole thing. It’s us. We’re up there by ourselves with every other state and we’ve got to bring it home for us,” said boxer Remi Hopkins.

“It’s like watching your own kids grow up,” said another coach, Najik Lewis. “They become kids to you and like your nephews and stuff, so I’m very proud. We become like family in here, so I’m very proud seeing how far they’ve come. There have been trials and they’ve been grinding here and ready to quit, but they kept going to get to this point so I’m happy for them.”

and the family of Gulf Coast Boxing Academy will hit the road to compete in Arkansas December 27th through the 29th as they fight for the Silver Glove!
