Guest Chef Program

You may hear there are too many cooks in the kitchen, but today at the Naval Construction Battalion Center, it was a good thing.
Students in the culinary arts program at Gulfport High School joined with a local chef at the Seabee Base to cook for hundreds of military men and women.
The students had interactive cooking lessons with the chefs on base and learned a few new dishes.
Chef Danie tells News 25 this is great experience for the students, especially ones interested in joining the military after graduating high school. “This is real world experience they are walking around with the different chefs learning the different stations. we don’t get this experience in the classroom, and I’ve always worked teaching young people and it’s so awesome for them to be able to go into a kitchen see how it works, and they’re feeding like 600 people today so you don’t get that experience all the time.”
This is part of the new guest chef program on base. Once a month, a local chef will come to the base and help cook for the Seabees and boost kitchen morale.
