Groundbreaking for renovations and new additions at Bayou View Elementary

Community leaders, students, faculty, and staff in the Gulfport School District came together this morning to break ground on additions and renovations at Bayou View Elementary School.

Those new additions include: four new classrooms, a boys and girls restroom, and an outdoor classroom. The additions to Bayou View have been in the works since 2014.

That’s when a bond issue was approved by voters to build Gulfport High School and to fund improvements for four elementary schools including Bayou View Elementary School.

Tammy Parker has been teaching for over 30 years at Bayou View Elementary School and says she is happy to finally see it coming together. “It’s a big thing when you have a neighborhood school and your community comes together. The mayor featured the talk about the One Coast, we are one coast and when you have a strong school and you can continue to add on and you continue to update. That’s just more children you can serve and you can nourish and help make productive members of society which is our mission statement in the Gulfport School District.”

The addition is the final phase of construction funded by the 2014 bond issue.
