Groundbreaking for new boardwalk in Pass Christian
Pass Christian leaders broke ground this morning on a new boardwalk along Highway 90 in the city.
Mayor Jimmy Rafferty was joined by city leaders and DMR Director Joe Spraggins were all in attendance.
The city recently received a $2.5 million grant for the project. The cement boardwalk will improve safety and access for cyclists, joggers, and pedestrians.
Local officials say this is one step out of many to connect the whole Coast. Mayor Rafferty said, “So now we’re going to have just one very well-done boardwalk the whole way from those two bridges, to cover the whole Coast and keep us all you know much safer and closer together.”
Department of Marine Resources Director Joe Spraggins said, “Also, we’re putting the lift on this which is the little raise part on it which we tried very hard and we did the first one over in Biloxi. It’s a very good safety issue and I think it’s just a big thing for the tourism for Mississippi.”
Mayor Rafferty says the boardwalk will be completed in phases over the next four years.
