Greyhounds Lacrosse holds Lacrosse Shootout for Veterans Fundraiser
The Greyhounds Lacrosse team took the field Friday for their Shootout for Veterans Fundraiser game against Lower Alabama Lacrosse out of Daphne, Alabama.
In addition to accepting donations, the Greyhounds were collecting $10 from each car that attended the benefit game, all of which went to Crusaders for Veterans, a nonprofit that helps veterans on the Gulf Coast through various efforts including hosting food drives and fixing homes of disabled vets.
The cause is something close to the hearts of the Greyhounds squad which has three coaches who are current or retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The coaches aren’t the only ones who recognize the importance of honoring and helping those who serve. Greyhounds Lacrosse Head Coach Brian May said, “A lot of the kids that have connections to the military– I know I had one of my deep poles to me and be like ‘can they mention my grandpa because he was special forces and used to jump out of planes?’ I was like ‘absolutely.’ That’s what it’s all about. It’s about honoring, remembering our veterans, and, with Crusaders for Veterans, give back to the community.”
A grand total of $1,200 was raised for Crusaders for Veterans during the game Friday.
