Greyhound Stadium renovations nearly complete
A renovation project for Ocean Springs High School’s Greyhound Stadium is almost complete. The nearly $4 million dollar project is wrapping up, just in time for the start of football season.
Many consider it to be the best time of the year. High school football returns Friday night and Ocean Springs High School is ready to start the season in style. Athletic Director Mark Hubbard said, “You know like I said tradition is rich here in football, and so, in general, just sports, in general, is huge in the Ocean Springs community.”
Hugh Pepper Field at Greyhound Stadium has a new look this season, following a nearly $4 million renovation project.
“It was time. This stadium is decades old and we were overflowing just about every Friday night. If you come and see us on Friday, it’s packed here. We were having to turn people away so we got together with our superintendent and school board and talked about what we wanted for the future.”
A new concession stand and bathrooms will be sure to provide fans with a better game day experience. Also added is an entire home-side grandstand which features a new press box, chair back seating for Ocean Springs Athletic Foundation members, and additional seating for Greyhound fans. “To my left is the home side, the old home side, that is the visitor’s side. We have flipped. We have about 300 more seats we have added to the new home side so we expect to be able to seat everyone that comes.”
Also included in the renovations is a new field house and ticket booth which is expected to be completed by the end of September.
The Greyhounds open the season Friday at home.
