Greenville police officer killed in shooting Tuesday night

A police officer was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Greenville, Mississippi.

According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, it happened around 8:30 last night near Highways 1 and 82.

Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell identifies the Greenville officer who was killed as Myiesha Stewart. Stewart was a mother of a three-year-old boy.

A suspect is in custody and is being treated at a hospital. Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons said, “The family is hurting. Our community is hurting. No one understands this more than the brave men and women standing on these steps beside me. The brave men and women who wake up every single day of their lives to protect and serve this community.”
