Great White Shark spotted near Dauphin Island
A 1000-pound Great White Shark was spotted four miles off the Alabama coastline this week.
Great White Sharks normally migrate from Newfoundland to the Gulf, but researchers say this shark’s behavior was uncommon.
The shark is named Ernst and was tagged in October 2025. The group Ocearch has been trapping Ernst, sharing in a post that she was spotted four miles off Alabama near Dauphin Island.
Ernst’s location is pinged each time her dorsal fin breaches the water’s surface.
Scientists say the pings highlight the need to understand Great White Sharks and their movements in the Gulf
