Grants will help businesses spruce up downtown Wiggins

Businesses in downtown Wiggins are getting a facelift, thanks to facade grants from the Stone County Economic Development District and Mississippi Power.

Leaders gathered Thursday at Paul Hardy Properties to announce the three grants to spruce up the businesses.

Stone County EDP and Mississippi Power partnered to provide $50,000 in grant funding to rejuvenate downtown Wiggins.

Each grant of up to $10,000 will be used for the building fronts and will match what the business owner spends on the facades.

“We’ll have new signage, new grass, new floristry in front of my building, so I’m excited about this,” said Ed Farmer of Farmer’s Leading.

Paul Hardy of Paul Hardy Properties said it’s important to take pride in your building and downtown Wiggins.

“It’s a part of stewardship and ownership to take pride in your property,” Hardy said. “This is giving me the opportunity to take care of things I need to do.”

Stone County Economic Development and Mississippi Power are in the process of selecting applicants for the second round of grants.
