Grandparent’s Day at North Bay Elementary

Grandparent’s Day is a special tradition at North Bay Elementary School in Biloxi. This year’s event was no exception. Hundreds gathered inside the school for the annual breakfast, leaving with their tummies and hearts full.
There’s a special bond between youngsters and their grandparents. Moments shared are golden and memories these little ones carry throughout life, something Kyndal Cotton has already picked up at a young age. “One time when we made a German chocolate cake, I ate all the chocolate. My grandma was like ‘what happened to the chocolate?’ It was in my tummy!”
Six-year-old Evan McGowan remembers his grandpa teaching him how to swim. Now, “Swims like a little dolphin.” “No, I’m not! I’m like a big shark.” “Yeah, like a big shark?” “I don’t know about big shark.”
Laughter and smiles filled North Bay Elementary School in Biloxi on Friday, all part of the school’s annual Grandparents Day, an opportunity for quality time for students and their grandparents, especially those who do not live close by. John Richett said, “I’m enjoying it because I don’t get to do a lot with her and it is special.”
After breakfast, kids took their grandparents around their school. “I showed her where PE is at. I showed her where everything is at.”
News 25 asked kids and their grandparents what they liked most about one another and this is what they had to say. “That they take good care of me.” “Her personality, she does not meet a stranger.” “That they’re so sweet to me.” “His hugs.” Everything,” “Umm, everything.”
It was clear the time spent together was the best thing about Grandparent’s Day. “I get to share it with my grandma and grandpa.”
“Being with your grandchild, there’s nothing like it.”
