Grand Bear Patriot Golf Day Tournament teed off

The Grand Bear Golf Club hosted its third annual Patriot Golf Day Tournament.

The tournament raises funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps provide families of fallen and disabled service members educational scholarships.

The tournament raised about $10,000 in 2019 and about $15,000 in 2020. They expect to exceed the $20,000 mark with this year’s tournament.

About 136 golfers, up from 106 last year, participated in the tournament with prizes for the top three finishers.

Grand Bear Head Golf Professional Allan Martel says consistent growth has been the theme of this tournament since the beginning. “We want to continue it. It is something that this course never did before. They never had an inside event that they hosted and donated all the proceeds. So, we definitely will be continuing this, continuing to grow it, and continuing to donate to Folds of Honor.”

Some features of the tournament include the ‘closest to the pin’ and ‘hole in one’ events. Prizes were also sponsored by Mercedes Benz of South Mississippi and Golf Invite.
