Grammy-nominated artist Valerie June performs for local students

MGCCC hosted second graders at the IMPAC Center, where they enjoyed a performance by Grammy-nominated artist Valerie June.

June is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, and author who began her career in Memphis.

June’s music has some folk, soul, blues, and traditional Appalachian elements blended into a refreshingly timeless sound.

June serenaded the crowd with music and read her book ‘Somebody to Love: The Story of Valerie June’s Sweet Little Baby Banjolele.’

She also taught students about the instruments she plays.
