Governor’s Gulf Coast Advisory Committee to convene

Governor Tate Reeves kicked off the 2022 meeting of the Governor’s Gulf Coast Advisory Committee.

The committee’s seven key focus areas are: tourism, eco-restoration, economic development, seafood, infrastructure, small business, and workforce research/education.

The committee will review and evaluate project ideas submitted to MDEQ’s Restoration Project idea portal and recommend projects to the governor to be considered for funding under the direct impact component and spill impact component of the Restore Act. Governor Reeves said, “We got a great team of community leaders that are going through all of the various projects that have been put forth through the portal. We have about 400 worthy projects and each of these various committees are going to take their time, be diligent, make recommendations on how we ought to spend the approximately $50 million that will be spent on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

Project ideas can be submitted for consideration by going to MDEQ.ms.gov/restoration and click on ‘Project Portal.’
