Governor Reeves signs Executive Order on Artificial Intelligence
Governor Tate Reeves issued the first Executive Order pertaining to Artificial Intelligence in Mississippi.
The order directs the state Department of Information Technology Services to conduct an inventory of all AI tech being used by state agencies.
The order also directs ITS to work with public and private sector stakeholders. Governor Reeves said, “Make no mistake, Mississippi is quickly becoming a major technology hub in these southeastern United Staters, but quite frankly we’re becoming a technology hub for America. While technology and advancements are a good thing, it’s implementation and utilization must be done in a thoughtful way, a responsible manner. While AI has the potential to assist our state in countless ways, it is critical that appropriate safeguards are put in place to protect Mississippians and protect our privacy.”
The executive order went into effect as soon as Governor Reeves signed it.
