Governor Reeves not accepting Richard Jordan’s clemency petition
Governor Tate Reeves announced he will not accept Richard Jordan’s clemency petition.
Governor Reeves said Jordan’s most recent round of appeals and stay motions have been rejected by the United Supreme Court, Mississippi Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeals for the fifth circuit.
Reeves saying all procedures are being followed with the anticipation the execution will proceed as scheduled.
He ends by saying this is a somber responsibility, but it is a responsibility he takes seriously as part of the Oath of Governor.
Jordan was convicted in the 1976 killing of a Gulfport woman. He is Mississippi’s longest serving death row inmate and is set to executed by lethal injection Wednesday.
