Governor Reeves announces new restoration projects

Continued efforts to protect South Mississippi waters as Governor Reeves has announced the approval of six more restoration projects to restore natural resources impacted by the BP oil spill.

The $26.8 million needed for the project is coming from funds the state received to improve South Mississippi’s infrastructure and natural resources following the 2010 disaster.

The West Hancock County Nearshore Habitat is getting $14 million to help restore habitats and increase crab and fish populations.

Other projects include $8 and a half million for a shoreline protection project, stretching from Deer Island to Katrina Key and more than $3 million for an offshore artificial reef and habitat enhancements across barrier islands.
