GOP Candidate John Kasich on the Coast

GOP presidential candidate and Ohio governor John Kasich has a date with South Mississippi next week, nearly eight weeks after GOP front runner Donald Trump visited the Coast. News 25’s Kristen Durand tells us what we can expect.
Next week Ohio Governor John Kasich is bringing his campaign to the Coast, hoping to tap into the minds of voters in South Mississippi. Former GOP hopeful Mark Everson said, “I think it’s good for Mississippi. It shows that the presidential candidates are taking this state seriously. It’s a wide open contest, as everybody knows. He’s fighting for what I would call a traditional vote.”
Next Wednesday, Governor Kasich will be speaking with the public at Café Climb in Gulfport and the Kasich Campaign is encouraging everyone to come out and join the conversation regardless of party affiliation. Frank Genzer, the 4th Congressional District Chairman for Governor John Kasich, said, “ We understand that there are many Republicans and Democrats that haven’t decided who they’re going to vote for and this is a way to educate yourself. So, you’ll be able to hear firsthand from him, what his comments are and what he feels he can accomplish as president.”
Kasich hopes to gain momentum in South Carolina and then here on the Coast. The GOP presidential hopeful took many by surprise when he shot to second place in the New Hampshire Republican primary last week. “We’ve been working for that from the very beginning. He has great legislative experience. He has great executive experience and business experience. I believe that he has the right plan for America,” said Genzer.
Those rallying for Kasich believe it is his deep rooted faith that will really resonate with South Mississippi, along with his other staunchly conservative views. “He is a Christian. He believes in state’s rights. He believes in less government as we all do and fewer taxes and he is against Obamacare,” said Genzer.
As the number of Republican candidates dwindles down, Kasich is one of just six still in the race, hoping a stop in Gulfport will make an impression on South Mississippians.
