Good Samaritan Stabbed at Dollar General
Two men are behind bars after allegedly robbing a Dollar General and stabbing a Good Samaritan. News 25’s Kendra Turley brings us the latest on this investigation.
Richard Griffin is just one of the many Gulf Coast residents who frequently shops at the Dollar General on Canal Road in Gulfport. “Well, I got a brother that lives on the other end of Robertson Road. Every time I come over here and visit, I pull in here and get something to take out there,” said Griffin.
But this popular place of convenience quickly turned into a bloody crime scene after a male entered the store with a knife and demanded money from the cashier. “Things are just happening too close to home now. It seems like every day something’s happening somewhere close to my home,” said Griffin.
According to police, 22-year-old Marces Rush of Gulfport left the store and was approached by a Good Samaritan who tried to apprehend him. That’s when Rush pulled a knife and stabbed the Good Samaritan multiple times before getting into a car driven by 25-year-old Demarcus Leshore of Wiggins.
Gulfport Police and officers with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department arrested both suspects on O’Neal Road shortly after. Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said, “He took the whole till so there is evidence on the roadway that we’re trying to recover, but right now we’re more worried about the citizen that intervened.”
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent immediate surgery. He’s now listed in stable condition.
Both suspects are being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on armed robbery, aggravated assault, and an accessory after the fact to aggravated assault charges.
