GOMESA Funds welcomed to the state to help coastal counties

Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith, as well as Congressman Steven Palazzo, welcomed the distribution of more than $36.7 million to the state of Mississippi.

The money went to its three coastal counties for coastal conservation, restoration, and hazard mitigation activities.

The funding represents the state’s share of revenues generated through the 2006 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act.

The state got over $29 million in 2021’s fiscal year while the three coastal counties received a combined total of $7.3 million.

The U.S. Department of the Interior administers the GOMESA revenue based on qualified offshore oil and gas leasing revenues.
