Golf Digest recognizes local club pro as a top teacher in the state
A Coast golf pro has been recognized by Golf Digest.
Hoppy Smith, PGA, the club pro at The Club at Diamondhead, has been named a 2022-2023 Best Teacher in the State by the trade magazine.
Smith was recognized along with three other PGA club pros in the state:
- V.J. Trolio, Old Waverly G.C., West Point
- Tim Yelverton, Old Waverly G.C., West Point
- Thomas Watkins, Whisper Lake C.C., Madison
Smith is the Director of Instruction and Player Development for the Golf Academy at Diamondhead and has been with The Club at Diamondhead for 25 years.
In addition to the recognition from Golf Digest, Smith’s other awards include:
- 2016 Gulf States PGA Teacher of the Year
- 2018, 2020 Golf Digest Best Teacher in the State
- 2018 Gulf States PGA Youth Player Development Award
- 2018, 2020 U.S. Kids Top 50 Kids Coach
Smith works with players of all levels and ages, from beginners to tour players, offering a comprehensive program utilizing the latest technology in the Academy. Diamondhead members and visitors can experience the state-of-the-art Golf Academy at Diamondhead facility.
