Golden Eagles still playing musical chairs under center

During the offseason, the number one storyline coming out of Southern Miss fall camp was the quarterback battle between Keon Howard and Kwadra Griggs, but who said the battle was over.
Howard got the start for the Golden Eagles once again on Saturday as they struggled to get the offense rolling on the road at Tennessee.
Griggs later saw some action, but it was too little, too late with USM dropping its second straight game by the final count of 24-10.
Nine games into the season, second year Coach Jay Hopson has seen enough of the two signal callers to make the switch back to a now healthy Griggs next week at Rice. “He’ll probably be our starter next week. He didn’t lose the job when he was injured, I mean he was injured, but I think Keon did a lot of good things too. I think Keon came in, and I thought, you look at the San Antonio game, you look at El Paso, you look at LA Tech. Some big wins, some big plays and I thought Keon didn’t play that bad Saturday.”
Funny to see Coach Hop so calm in the Monday press conference after blowing off some steam in the third quarter at a call going against Xavier Thigpen who was penalized for leaping, even though he jumped straight in the air and didn’t even attempt to go over the back of his own player.
At one point, the penalties were being called 12 to nothing in favor of the Vols.
