Giving back at the tenth annual Hurricane Katrina Memorial Blood Drive
With today being the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, there are also many ways to help just like others helped the Gulf Coast 17 years ago.
The tenth annual Hurricane Katrina Memorial Blood Drive is taking place at the Edgewater Mall. The goal of the drive is to remember Katrina and those we lost, but also to show how the community can come together when it is needed.
Blood donations will still be accepted August 30th from noon to 7 p.m.
All eligible donors are needed to help save lives and they can do that outside the old Champs building in the mall. Blood donor Brita Wren said, “I’ve been a blood donor for a long time, but after Hurricane Katrina came through, we lost our house and we lost everything that we had and so many people stepped up to help us and help the Gulf Coast. So, this is just one way I can give back. So, I pretty much try to donate every year on the Katrina anniversary.”
Those who donate will receive a Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last and a $5 Amazon gift card claim code.
