A Gift of Warmth to those in Need

In anticipation of the freezing temperatures headed our way, the Salvation Army gave the gift of warmth to those in need.
People who qualified filed through the command center in Gulfport today to get a free jacket, shoes, hats, and gloves for adults and children.
This is the second time this year the Salvation Army offered these warm essentials. Organizers say they will offer this a third time if needed.
Their goal is get all of the coats and shoes they have into the hands of families in the community who need them most. Grant Writer and Volunteer Coordinator Zach Rhodes said, “It means a lot to people in our community that desperately need those coats. A lot of people in the community are struggling financially so this allows them the opportunity to come into our building, receive free coats and free shoes that will only help their family and also help them financially.”
The Salvation Army will open their doors to the cold weather shelter tonight through Sunday night for those who need a warm place to sleep during the freezing temperatures. Volunteers are also needed. For information on how to help call 228-207-2303.
