Getting green for St. Patty’s in Biloxi
The 39th annual Hibernia Marching Society’s St. Patrick’s Day parade rolled through downtown Biloxi Saturday.
The parade led off with the 2017 grand marshal, state Representative Scott Delano and Colleen, Alexandra Waldrop. The parade also had a very big surprise with former Biloxi Bishop M.R. Morin to come and bless the floats as they passed.
Locals came out decked out in green to celebrate the holiday and catch some beads and even exchange kisses for flowers. “This is a really big event for the Irish heritage of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We draw a lot of people from all over South Mississippi, even had some friends here from Tennessee that came down here just for the event. It’s a very large draw. It’s one of the only ones that really recognizes the Irish heritage of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It’s a great time for everyone to enjoy it,” said Delano.
Before the parade they had their annual derby 5K run and even had a barbecue cook off at the town green and finished the day off with the parade.
It began on Howard Avenue in front of the Biloxi Community Center and ended on Reynoir Street.
