George County Students Show off Horticulture Skills

George County High School has one of the top career and technical education programs in the state. This week a number of students are showing off an amazing pumpkin patch that they created.
Horticulture students have turned a rundown barn into a pumpkin patch, growing the orange fruits we all love. This week, over 500 preschool and elementary students will be visiting the pumpkin patch, where they will not only get to pick the pumpkins but take part in outdoor learning activities as well.
Superintendent of George County Schools Debbie Harrell said, “Oh the students are so excited when they come, the elementary students. Just to be on the high school campus, they’re just really excited about that. They enjoy being in the pumpkins. They enjoy the stories. It has been so beneficial to our community.”
George County school officials tell News 25 they pride themselves on their career and technical education program. Because George County is such a rural area, they feel it’s important to get students ready should they choose to work locally.
