George County Sheriff’s Office warns residents against scam
GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The George County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam targeting families of jail inmates in the county.
Scammers are claiming a family member can be released from jail or placed on an ankle monitor if a payment is made over the phone.
The sheriff’s office says that is not how the process works and you should never send money or provide payment information.
If you get one of these calls, hang up and contact the correctional facility directly.
