George County School District putting more safety precautions in place

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The George County School District released a statement for the community, calling for more safety and security during the school day and events.

Superintendent Debra Joiner said recent acts of violence in Mississippi makes it so vigilance and preparation are not optional.

In order to help with that, armed and uniformed officers will be at major events happening for the school district.

There will also be plainclothes officers monitoring activity in the crowd.

Additional safety measures are in place as well that ensure a swift and effective response to any situation.

Joiner says school district staff and law enforcement partners review and update emergency procedures, conduct safety drills, and debrief after events to strengthen readiness.
