George County School District hosts inaugural Dyslexia Conference

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The George County School District hosted its first Dyslexia Conference Tuesday morning.

This important event was designed to deepen understanding and improve outcomes for all students and students with dyslexia.

The conference theme ‘Encourage and Equip’ emphasized the district’s commitment to equipping educators with the tools and knowledge needed to identify and support students with dyslexia in the classroom and beyond.

Dr. Kristi Tanner, the district’s dyslexia coordinator, is passionate about getting the message out to educators across the district and the state. She states that ‘what is essential for some is beneficial for all.’

The keynote speaker was Emmy-nominated actor, author, and Dyslexia advocate Ameer Baraka.

Ameer shared a message of hope and of how he overcame many obstacles in his life.

Participants also heard from expert speakers in the fields of literacy intervention and special education.
